MARYSVILLE, OH -- A group of 36 people from the greater Columbus area joined Drs. Frank and Norman Raymond on their yearly medical mission trip to Honduras from February 4 to 11. Now in its seventh year, the doctors, nurses, dentists, clergy, translators, college students, and other volunteers helped more than 3,000 people during their week-long trip.
“As a medical mission trip, our job is to provide the medical care that the vast majority of Hondurans just don’t have access to. We want to do what we can to get them healthy. From there, we focus on providing for their spiritual needs through Salvation Army churches,” said Dr. Frank Raymond. “We’re proud to be able to give back, especially to communities in Central America that have been devastated by hurricanes and a constant lack of food and resources.”
Each morning the team traveled from modest accommodations in San Pedro Sula to a different village, six in total, to set up shop. Not only were general health and dental conditions diagnosed and treated, but children were screened for heart defects. Qualified candidates are flown to The Cleveland Clinic heart hospital for surgery. The cost of these services is covered by The Cleveland Clinic and the Raymond Family Foundation.
Since 1983, the physicians at Marysville Obstetrics & Gynecology have been providing women a lifetime of care. The practice’s specialties include gynecology, infertility, routine and high risk obstetrics, ultrasounds, female incontinence, office-based surgery, male and female osteoporosis screening, and minimally invasive surgery. Obstetrics patients deliver their children at the new Miracle Life Center on the campus of the Memorial Hospital of Union County. The practice offers three office locations for patient convenience: 150 Morey Drive in Marysville, 900 Scioto Street in Urbana and 240 West Main Street in Plain City.
This medical mission trip is sponsored by The Salvation Army-Eastern Territory. The Raymond Family Foundation and The Cleveland Clinic also partner to provide funds and needed supplies.
